Our Mandate

SAHUC’s primary mandate is to promote, protect, and advance the welfare and interests of South African Muslims undertaking Hajj and Umrah.
As a voluntary, non-profit organisation, SAHUC serves as the recognised representative body that engages with relevant authorities and stakeholders on matters affecting South African pilgrims.
The Council operates independently and is committed to responsible governance, transparency, and ethical leadership in fulfilling its responsibilities to the Muslim community.

Our Governance
The South African Hajj and Umrah Council is a voluntary non-profit association formed for the purpose of promoting and overseeing the welfare, well-being and interests of the South African Pilgrims who undertake Hajj and Umrah.
SAHUC is an unincorporated association not for gain and is a body corporate which:
- Exists in its own right, separately from its members.
- Shall continue to exist even when its membership changes and there are different office bearers.
- Shall be able to own property and other possessions.
- Can sue and be sued in its own name.
Our Objectives
- Promoting the performance of Hajj and Umrah in accordance with the teachings and principles of Islam.
- Educating and informing Muslims across South Africa on every aspect of Hajj and Umrah preparation.
- Supporting the welfare, safety, and well-being of South African pilgrims travelling to Makkah and Madinah.
- Representing the interests of South African pilgrims through constructive engagement with relevant authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
- Building strong relationships with local and international organisations that contribute positively to the pilgrimage experience.
- Consulting with community organisations and stakeholders on matters affecting Hajj and Umrah.
- Developing sound policies and practical solutions that enhance the pilgrimage experience for all South Africans.
- Operating with transparency, accountability, and responsible governance.
- Upholding the values of a non-profit organisation by ensuring that all resources are used solely in pursuit of SAHUC’s objectives.
- Remaining independent, impartial, and free from commercial or political interests.
